A new Colosseum stands above the London Skyline. Inside, gladiatorial individual combat sports are fully surrounded by an amphitheatre of epic proportions.

This is a proposal to erect an independent 3000 seat circular amphitheatre inside the longtime unused central space of the 64m diameter gasholder at Kennington Oval. Above this, the tall gasholder structure will comfortably support a suspended conical PTFE fabric roof.

The 24 equal bays of the Oval gasholder neatly lend themselves to the display of flags for each of the 72 nation states currently registered to take part in the Commonwealth Games. The height of the existing structure allows these to become a beacon in the local skyline.
